Hey everyone. Well I have been offline because of back pain for the last couple weeks. It’s not a good feeling having your back holding you back from doing anything.

It started back in 1987. I was involved in a truck accident (tractor trailer). My truck was run off a bridge by another truck whose driver was drunk. It was in Knoxville, TN at the Cherry Street exit. I spent 3 months in the hospital and a few surgeries. Broken left shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers (both hands), damage to both knees, fractured back in 2 places and neck fractured in 3, 4 disc herniated and 1 blown out completely. What’s your opinion?

Decided to put a few polls out there, get an idea what others are thinking. I always try to listen to others opinions, then use that with what research I do and then try to come up with my thoughts on the matter. So in a way, these poll results will have influence on my decisions of what I do and plan for. I am a prepper myself. I do not share any information with other companies or 3rd parties in anyway. I am here to learn, but learn with as few of mistakes as possible. I would like the $100.00′s I have spent in mistakes back. Some of you who take the polls  have saved me from costly mistakes already, for this I am deeply grateful.

I also hope some of you will get an idea of what other preppers are thinking. It may be just what you need to “fine tune” your plan. It’s a great way to find out without any personal information being given. We are by nature a “non-trusting” group, but we also like to help other preppers with our knowledge. So, please be honest in your answers and if you think I have made a mistake or I should add something, let me know. I want it to be right and real.

Will I Survive?

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. And have wondered. Will I survive? Will I be over run? Killed? Tortured? What of my family?

I am only one man, yes the wife and son will be here to help, both excellent shots, but that is only 3 of us. I am thinking that if we truly have a catastrophe there will be gangs of 25 to armies of 250 everywhere, sorry to say, I think more than half will be on the “evil” side.

I have been trying to find others to be in a group, to band together, but it is difficult. Most of the ones I meet are so tied into guns and weapons that their food and other supplies lack. To me, it’s almost as if they look forward to having to kill. I understand safety and security are paramount, but it is not all there is to it. I have every intention of protecting what I have to the best of my ability. But I am planning on everything else just as much. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Faraday Cage

** UPDATE **

OK, I did it. Everything went as planned. See the Pictures at end of the post.

OK, this weekend I am going to build my Faraday Cage. I plan on using a new galvanized trash can. I am going to ground it to a 8 foot copper ground rod driven into the ground. I plan on driving the rod in (all but the last 2 feet), pull it out and pouring salt in the hole then re-driving it. The salt will help act as a better conductor (so I have read). I am going to spray the inside of the can with Flex Seal, rubber spray to insulate the contents from the can/cage. Once it is all filled up with the supplies I will seal the lid with foil tape to create a EMP proof cage. Just click on the items in the article to open up the AMAZON link to it.

I’M IN FULL SURVIVAL MODE!

OK, I am in full survival mode now. It came on so quickly. I just hope everything I trained for will be enough.

Yes, you guessed it. The wife has left town for a week! How will I eat? Where will I get clean clothes from? Who will get my beer? (OK, I will go to hell for that last one) Anyway, she did go out of town to take her mother to see family. I am left here alone to tend to myself. Anyone that would leave me in charge needs to be examined :P

I am taking this time to work on the new website and to take my bug out bag apart to check for any out of date stuff and just take inventory. I think this time I am going to make a inventory card WITH what pocket everything is in and laminate it. I know the bag is as about as complete as I can make it, but if I had to get to something in a hurry I wouldn’t be able to find it. So if I keep the card in one pocket I can refer to it quickly. New Website

I know I haven’t been on here for a few days, but I have been working on a new website. It’s for preppers, but it’s a ton of work. I hope you all will be pleased with it when I am finished. I have been burning the candle at both ends to work on the new website, work all day and then literally work all night on it. Last night, Sunday, I took a break. We ate dinner and watched a movie. Went to bed early.

Let’s see, oh yeah, I was informed by my Dr. that I need a fusion in my back (already had 4 in my neck), left knee replaced and right knee cleaned up some. If I would have ever in my wildest dreams thought I would live this long I really would have taken better care of myself. :P Sucks getting old physically, but I guess you trade something for the wisdom and patience you gain. Right? Anyone?

So back to the new website. I am building a complete site for preppers. It is a huge undertaking, but I think I can get it done by the end of April. I am however, looking for preppers to help me with content, be moderators on the forum, help answer questions from “newbies”, offer advice, how to’s in writing and video, etc. I would greatly appreciate any help that comes from fellow preppers. I don’t want to give away to many details as of yet for fear someone may take the ideas and go bigger or get it out there before me. It will be separate from this site as this one is about me and my tribulations.

So if you are willing or know someone who would be willing, please let me know or get them to contact me at turkeyman@diaryofaprepper.com

Dear Diary….

Today I realized that I have gotten off track from what I originally wanted to do with this site. I was so humbly reminded by the little woman :) It is supposed to be a diary of my thoughts on prepping, my work on prepping and how it effects my personal life. That is what I wanted, sure I wanted to throw in some thought provoking post, but I really never intended to try and teach for I am not a teacher. So I apologize if I went astray.

OK, anyone that knows me, especially Mrs. Turkeyman, knows you should not leave me alone with my thoughts! :P And since I drive a dump truck all day, I am alone with my thoughts a lot. What would you do?

I know I am going to catch a lot of crap over this post, but I don’t care. This is something I was thinking of today as I was talking to someone else about prepping. They shot the same scenario at me. So I am giving it to you. The “buck didn’t stop here”.

EMP blast radius

It’s the end of the world as we know it. A nuclear blast above the center of the country wiped us out. NO ELECTRICAL ANYTHING! No city water, sewage, natural gas. No vehicles running. You have the idea. Now let’s say we retaliated with our own nuclear attack and did the same to whomever hit us. Then our allies hit them as well, their allies hit our allies. OK, I now have the whole world in the dark. What would you do? Your up! Your called to the “Big Show”. You have been training for this for years. Go get ‘em tiger!

Bug Out Bag List

Guardian Bug-Out-BagOK, today we will go into the items needed for a bug out bag. At least my bug out bag list. Your bug out bag list will be different of course, but it will have the same basics.

My family and I carry backpacks just as if we would be in the mountains for a week. We do this because once we leave our house in a bug out scenario, we never know if/when we will be back again. So with a full sized backpack we have all we need. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Bug out or hunker down? What is right for you? When is it best to leave? When is it best to stay? Do you have your plan? Is your plan flexible and ready to change at any given moment? You have a bug out bag, you have some food, your vehicle is fueled up and ready to go. So get in it and haul ass! Right?
